Federal-style Tea Table
Woodworker: Mario Rodriguez
This Federal-style tilt-top tea table fit Rodriquez’s search for a challenging and interesting project. He makes his version from mahogany, which is ideal for the turning required. A sliding dovetail is used to join the legs to the column. The legs are rough-cut on a bandsaw, then shaped with hand tools. The tilting mechanism is a pivot block that fits over the column tenon and two cleats that attach to the underside of the tabletop. The table is finished with a mix of cherry and walnut stain topped with shellac.
