Woodworker: Jonathan Parris

This oak table and chairs was modeled after a set designed by Carl Malmsten more than 50 years ago. Parris got interested in the Swedish furniture maker’s work when he studied at his school, Capellagärden, in Sweden. The table is 43-in. dia. by 29-in. tall; the chairs are 18-in. deep by 16-in. wide by 32-in. tall; the stools are 11-in. deep by 17-in. wide by 18-in. tall. The finish is oil. “My two years at CR felt all too short,” Parris says. “Not for my education— which was superb and life-changing—but for the community and friendship of my classmates, and the alumnae and teachers who continue to care about it so deeply.” Photo credit: David Welter.
