Goddard-Townsend-Style Fall-Front Secretary

Woodworker: Carl Glassman
While building this reproduction Goddard-Townsend fall-front secretary, Glassman, an 83-year-old retired surgeon, received both inspiration and guidance from John McAlister, an amateur woodworker whose fall-front secretary was featured on the back cover of Fine Woodworking #129. Made of quilted Central American mahogany, the massive piece stands more than 9 ft. tall to the top of the center finial. The piece is finished with oil, shellac, and wax.
