Greene-and-Greene-style Dining Set
Woodworker: Darrell Peart
Peart’s job was to design dining furniture that would suit a 1908 bungalow filled with built-ins and furniture in the Stickley style. He succeeded by modifying dining table and chair designs by Greene and Greene. The table base is built up from the original to hold its own with the heavy furniture and millwork around it. Peart widened the legs, shortened the stretchers and thickened the tabletop. He deliberately made the chairs less sculptural, thickening the side posts and crest rail to avoid seeming too delicate in contrast with the surrounding furniture. All pieces are made from cherry with Ebon-X accents. The finish is a urethane varnish.
