Michael Cullen’s chest of drawers on solid cherry features hand-carved and painted drawer fronts and maple drawer sides with unfinished nutmeg drawer bottoms. Cullen often patterns his pieces with vibrant carvings that range from the whimsical to the primitive. He usually applies three or four coats of milk paint in various shades, some wiped off with a rag, to achieve variegated colors, resulting in the impression of age right out of the shop.
