Hawk’s-Nail Blanket Chest

This blanket chest is a Kintaro Yazawa original, as is the joinery. The exposed hawk’s-nail joint, as he calls it, is essentially a dovetail joint but the ends of the pins have been carved and chamfered. As with all of Yazawa’s inventive joints this is one of a kind. He enjoys the process the first time around but repeating the intense effort to make the same joint again would be drudgery, he said.
