Woodworker: Nancy R. Hiller

Hiller decided to reproduce this sideboard because she was attracted to its unusual proportions and the combination of metal and glass with wood. The original was made by English furniture manufacturer Harris Lebus in 1903. Made of flatsawn white oak, the sideboard is 22-½ in. deep by 63 in. wide by 65 in. tall, and the finish is dye, stain, amber shellac, and wax (see Finish Line: “Original Arts & Crafts,” FWW #193). While Hiller handled all the woodwork, the copper and brass hardware was made by Kailas McQueen, the leaded glass doors by Jamee Wissink, and the art glass by Anne Ryan Miller.
