Modern Fireplace Mantel
Woodworker: Mario Rodriguez
Triangular in cross section, this mantel looks a bit like a range hood over the fireplace. Down lights in the underside of the box cast an artful glow where a mantel shelf would typically be found. With a wry nod to tradition, Rodriguez added the red shelf, which pierces the structure like a thick arrow and provides two bright surfaces for displaying pottery of other small items.
