Occidental Armoire
Woodworker: Matthew Danser
While touring in Japan with his now-defunct band, Danser found inspiration for this cherry armoire (23 in. deep by 33 in. wide by 61 in. tall) in the traditional architecture, particularly the Torii gate and pagoda. He carved the African blackwood pulls to resemble the hand-hammered iron hardware found on antique Japanese furniture. The finish is Danish oil, garnet shellac, and wax. This armoire was the recipient of the Best Traditional Furniture Award at the Texas Furniture Makers Show. Photo: S.J. Derby From Fine Woodworking #204
