Outdoor Steamer Trunk
Woodworker: Gale Satterlee
Satterlee built a line of outdoor furniture inspired by the movie Titanic, which included this matching steamer trunk made one from jarrah. Numerous mechanical joints hold the piece together. The frame uses box, mortise and tenon, and bridle joints. The sides come from thick solid wood that’s shiplapped together and held in place with tongue-and-groove joints. The curved lid uses sliding dovetails in the frame and then bent, shiplapped boards form the outer skin. The piece is lined with aromatic cedar boards and is finished with Sikkens Cetol 1 and Cetol TGL Satin. www.GaleSatterlee.com
