Playful Energy – Impala Sculpture
Woodworker: Bill Churchill
Churchill’s sculpture won first place in the animal wood carving category at the 2007 Design in Wood competition organized by the San Diego Fine Woodworkers Association. A realistic wood sculptor, Churchill drew his inspiration for this carving from a book on animals of the Serengeti. The carving is poplar, mounted on an oak base, and took about 40 hours to complete. The finish is clear liquid wax and boiled linseed oil.
