Porringer-Top Tea Table
Woodworker: Dan Faia
Dan Faia built this Queen Anne porringer-style table (FWW, June 2007) based on a design he saw in an antiques catalog. The original was built in Wethersfield, Conn. between 1740 and 1760. It features hand-shaped legs and an easy finish that tones down the bright color of natural cherry. Before staining the wood with an aniline dye, Faia applied a coat of shellac to avoid blotchiness. He followed that with several coats of Waterlox Original varnish and wax.
