“Public” Bench
Woodworker: John P. McCormack
As a student at the Rhode Island School of Design, McCormack helped students at two Providence schools design and build this bench. Students worried the piece might get vandalized or collect graffiti since it was destined for an inner-city school so they designed it to be massive, durable, and tagged it with their own “graffiti” in paint marker. The work was included in the Annual Graduate Student Exhibition in 1996 at the RISD Museum of Art.
