Puzzling Illusion Rice Bowl
Woodworker: Art Liestman
Computer Science professor Art Liestman turned this rice bowl as part of an American Association of Woodturners project. He was given a rough-turned bowl and was asked to finish it for an exhibit, Japanese Bowls: A Western Perspective. Liestman kept the design simple to mirror the traditional Japanese aesthetic. But he personalized it with the puzzle cutout, a reoccurring element in his work. The finish is Minwax wipe-on polyurethane.
