Sewing Table
Woodworker: Miguel Gómez-Ibáñez
The strangeness of this furniture form appealed to Gomez-Ibanez, as well as the fact that it is virtually extinct. On the original sewing tables, a bag meant for holding yarn and fabric was suspended from an open-bottomed drawer. As a cabinetmaker’s pun, Gomez-Ibanez made the “bag” on his table from quilted maple, wood whose ripples resemble gathered silk.
