Shoulder Plane
Woodworker: Brian Buckner
Buckner built this drop-nose shoulder plane based on a photo he saw in Sandor Nagyszalanczy’s The Art of Fine Tools (The Taunton Press, 2000). The plane is constructed out of phosphor bronze and tool steel with a rosewood infill. “Unlike the original which had a cast gunmetal shell,” says Buckner, “I used dovetails to join the side to the sole.” The infill has a French-polish finish.
