Steel-Topped Table
Woodworker: William Walker
Walker’s steel and maple table, whose parts are made entirely by machine, goes from raw materials to UPS in a day. In designing this table for mass production, Walker encountered different problems than when making custom furniture. Walker had to work backward from the retail price, a concept that most manufacturers are familar with, but is foreign to craft furniture makers.
