Step Tansu
Woodworker: Rob Brown
Rob Brown built this piece because he liked the history of the form. Step tansu were traditionally used in Japan to give owners access to their upper level. Because Japanese homes were small the space under the stairway was used as storage and not wasted. He also liked the design and functional possibilities. This piece is made from white ash and handmade Japanese paper. It is finished with aniline dye, glaze, and varnish.
