Tansu-Inspired Cabinet on Stand
Woodworker: German F. Plessl
The cabinet was Plessl’s first project in the College of the Redwoods fine furniture program, in California. He made the school’s trademark cabinet-on-stand, but gave it a Japanese tansu twist. The cabinet features asymmetric spaces, giving each nook a different personality. To accentuate this, Plessl use a different pull for each opening. The pulls are the only curved elements of the piece. The carcase is dovetailed with mitered corners. The finish is shellac.
