Woodworker: Frank Strazza

Influenced by Federal-style furniture, Strazza designed this solid figured walnut writing desk for the Texas Furniture Makers Show. The secondary woods are maple, holly, and ebony. He estimates he cut more than 275 miters for the stringing and ebony trim. Finished with Danish oil and shellac with a French polish on the top, the desk is 28 in. deep by 56 in. wide by 30 in. tall. It received the Furniture Committee’s Choice Award at the Texas Furniture Makers Show; it was also the recipient of the Fine Woodworking Award for Craftsmanship.
