Wave Chest
Woodworker: John P. McCormackMcCormack designed this chest to display a sea-form glass sculpture by Dale Chihuly. The chest’s rippled surfaces and milk-paint colors play on the ocean theme but it’s also practical. The client needed a sturdy piece to protect the Chihuly sculpture from the client’s pair of Newfoundland dogs. The chest also doubles as storage for linens and silver in the dining room. Crafted from mahogany and bloodwood veneer, McCormack used maple, poplar, and mahogany plywood as secondary materials.
