White Oak and Juniper Box

Mullen made this white oak and juniper box for his goddaughter. The carved lid reflects her love of the ocean. To make the twisted dovetail carcase, Mullen cut flat 8/4 stock to size, created the twist with a handsaw, then cut and fit the dovetails. The finish is satin urethane varnish.
