White Oak, Maple, and Basswood Settee
Woodworker: Greg Pennington
When building this white oak, maple, and basswood settee, Pennington shaped all 45 spindles by hand with a drawknife and spokeshave. The undercarriage was turned on the lathe, and the seat was carved with a scorp and travisher. Pennington says it was “an adventure in problem solving and geometry which resulted in many hours of fun.” The chair, finished with milk paint, oil, and varnish, is 21 in. deep by 78 in. wide by 47 in. tall.
