Woodworker: Greg Young

Greg Young melded several designs in this black walnut bureau, which alongside a sleigh bed and a roll-top desk comprise a bedroom suite for his youngest daughter. It’s based on an antique that’s been in his family for almost a half-century. A book by Monte Burch, How to Build 50 Classic Furniture Reproductions, and a piece in the Kansas City Nelson-Atkins museum also flavored the design. A hobbyist woodworker and an engineer by trade, Young said he prefers historical styles over contemporary works. “I am really fascinated by what older craftsmen were able to do without the help of today’s modern power tools,” he said.
