“Yew and Me” Display Cabinets
Woodworker: Timothy ColemanFrom reading Krenov’s books and working with former student William Walker, Coleman was already well-versed in the CR way when he came to the school. There are many Krenov influences in this imbuya, English sycamore, and yew cabinet. Coleman says, “One cannot build a cabinet on an open stand these days without referencing Jim in some way.” Here, the attention to details, fine proportions, grace, and warmth are all apparent. Also, Coleman approached the design and construction with flexibility and spontaneity, which Krenov referred to as “composing.” This, Coleman feels, was the most important lesson he got during his time with Krenov. Coleman works alone in his own shop, building furniture on speculation and commission.
