Charter Oak Box
Charter Oak Box…..My brother-in-law gave me some lumber milled from a locally famous Black Oak that died a few years ago and recently fell down. As family legend has it, an old great uncle, who was a bit of a barn-storming pilot, once cheated death by crash-landing his plane in the top of the tree. I love wood with a story! The box is constructed from wood from that venerable tree. It is approx. 5.5×8 inches, hinged with hidden pins and embellished with black oak leaves with a walnut center vein that serve as a lift and lid stop. (An interesting side bar…the black oak tree has two types of leaves…..sun and shade.) The splines and the tray handle are also walnut. The interior tray rests on side rails and the lining is black suede.

This is a really nice box.. The leaves are a terrific touch of craft work. Well done.
