Mahogany Writing Desk
I had been pondering a desk-design for over a year. It had to be timeless and elegant. When I saw Chris gouchnour´s design in FWW I knew I could do something with it. I had a wide board of Mahogany from a veneer factory in the workshop, which I knew would one day become part of a desk. The board was too narrow for the size desk I wanted (it is bigger than in Gochnour´s plan) so I added cherry to complement it. The challenge in this project were the legs and the drawers. The drawer pulls are made of wenge. The drawer dovetails are handcut.
The finish of the desk-top was done by spraygun, the rest was treated with three coats of shellac.

I don't comment often but, this is acceptation work. Very nice indeed.
Very nice. I made mine of black walnut. Your contrasting woods define and show off the lines much more clearly and to me give it a more contemporary look. I'm not unhappy with mine used where it is, but I think most people would find yours more striking and appealing. It's interesting how much difference the materials choice makes. I hope you enjoyed building it as much as I did.
Beautiful desk. I really like the top
A beautiful desk. You have done great work here.
Wow, beautiful desk. I am making the same desk and just finished the glue up for the base. I am a beginner and this is my first furniture project, so I opted not to do the curve. Knowing what I know to make this desk the square way - makes your desk even more impressive! Contrasting wood is very pretty.
