French Bleed/ Rustic Handscrape technique
Distressed/handscraped floors are becoming extremely popular these days. As a hardwood floor heritage restoration specialist, I have to admit that i roll my eyes a little bit when i see an “Antiqued” or “Distressed” hardwood floor that was manufactured on a soul-less factory conveyer belt somewhere in China. While nothing can beat handscraping a real wideplank antiique hardwood floor that has already been laid for 100 years, the technique that i will show will be a close second. After attending numerous NWFA technical schools as a student and now a teacher, I have learned many old school tricks working side by side with some of the very best hardwood floor men on the planet. Creating a legit “antiqued” hardwood floor was one of the skills that i have picked up through two of my NWFA mentors Frank Kroupa and Daniel Boone. If you are going to try something like this, the only thing you need to think about is consistent inconsistency. I hope you enjoy the video.
