Bow Arm Morris Chair

The hardest part was the cushions – I wanted thick leather but have no industrial sewing machine so I hand laced them. I ended up needing two cortisons shots in my thumbs after damaging the tendons from the effort of pulling hte lace. Ouch. Finish was from a recipe in Popular woodworking – honey brown dye followed by a wiping stain then amber shellac and wax. One of my first projects and still a favorite chair. Like any woodworker I see flaws when I look at it…

sweet !!! for a guy new to this woodworking stuff , this shows great promise. You should be very proud. The only thing I might change is to go to a darker stain but thats only me. Very nice indeed.

I know what you mean about those cushions. A cloth cushion, custom made is a minimum of a $100.00.
A while back I saw an oak Morris Chair in a furniture store and it wasn't using mortise and tenon jointery, I think it did come with leather cushions, and they wanted over $1,000.00 for it.
