Miniature No. 0 Shaker rocker
I make full-sized Shaker chairs. My wife collects miniature chairs. So for Christmas this year I figured a shrunken Shaker piece might do the trick. The result is an exact “half-size” version of the No. 0 rocker. I put “half-size” in quotes because with a 3-dimensional object, if you cut one dimension in half you’re actually reducing by eight times. It would take eight of these little chairs to fill the space taken by a real one. The No. 0 is the smallest Shaker model, suited for kids aged from two to about five.
The mini version’s back legs are about 11″ long, the knob on the arm is 1/2″ in diameter. The seat is woven with 3/8″ grosgrain ribbon, and back legs and back slats are steam bent as with the real thing. Made of cherry, finished with a mixture of tung oil, varnish and boiled linseed oil.
