“Nelly”-Fretless Bass
Made from scraps of walnut, white oak (recycled fence boards) and maple (recycled butcherblock countertop), a long project completed when weekends would allow with a long time musician friend. Our first attempt.
“Nelly” is a 5-String Fretless bass featuring a passive Mighty Mite soap bar pickup at the neck position and a vintage 77′ Musicman Stingray pickup at the bridge position. The Electronics are a Carvin 501B Active/Passive Bass Module with 3 band EQ and bass boost. The Tuners are Gotoh Compacts, the Bridge is a solid brass Hipshot in black. The Nut is a Carvin GN5 graphite. The headstock inlay is made of white and black pearl, and abalone shell. “Nelly” has been played in well over a hundred venues, all along the East Coast of the United States, and is the primary bass for her owner. With a naturally dark and woody tone “Nelly” is perfect for dance, funk, R&B, Jazz, and go-go music without electronic EQ alterations. Using the Carvin 501B module allows you to dial in a far more aggressive and edgy tone if desire or blend them both for a perfect rock tone.
