That is amazing work. I've got some mirrors from a rear-projection Tv that I have thought of using for one of these. What type of wood is it?
Thanks Mike. It is made from local (Oregon) walnut and cherry. The base was made from an old pallet.
Nobody wants one like this anymore but this was for use with my grandkids. The main mirror has to be a bit concave, depending on the power and resolution desired. I had mine ground and purchased the smaller one needed from Edmunds.
For the money I put into the hardware I could have purchased something that had instant star-finding capabilities with servos moving the thing. This one is great for showing the basics but kids lose interest when it takes the time to aim and find. As a project, this was really fun.
