Civil War Officer’s replica Folding chair
I saw this period chair in Fine Wood working and had to build it. I enjoy period furniture for a variety of reasons. It’s typically simple in design, functional and made of woods that back then were abundant. I used the plan from A.J. Hamler. I made it with threaded rivet fasteners so I can take it apart and duplicate. Even the dowel pins are not glued yet. I have to make more!
My Wife , Rita, made the cushion and picked the fabric.
What strikes me so much about this piece is how small people were 200 years ago. As I built it I kept thinking ” It can’t be this Small” but it is. I can sit in the chair and relate it to when I go to the beach and sit in one of those miniature folding beach chairs.

i am in the middle of making two of these chairs but from plans in woodworking magazine
they wont be folding so i am looking for 2 1/2" carriage bolts
cant seem to locate them in brass but i did find bronze not all that expensive my other alternative was stainless steel but i wanted the look of bronze/brass against the dark wood
i spent an awful lot of time sanding the curved pieced
oh my most important change in the design is making the chairs 2 inches wider for my fat ass
