Jewelry Cabinet – Krenov Style
Jewelry Cabinet – Krenov Style
Starting with the classic James Krenov Display Cabinet, I modified the design to be wall hung and replaced the glass doors with solid panels. The usual display shelving was replaced with a vertical divider and two primary storage features. On the right side of the divider are ten open top trays which will be lined with ring rolls and felt material for storage and display of rings, large pins, bracelets, etc.. Most trays have 1 ½ inch height capacity and are 8 inch wide by 6 inch deep. There is one deeper tray for large items such as a watch and an open compartment for everyday item placement. On the left side of the divider are 24 inch high by 6 inch deep slide out panels which are arrayed in two formats. The first format is for necklace hanging at two levels and the second is classic ear ring slot bars which are seen often at craft shows. All individual pegs are movable as are the ear ring slot bars.
All material is either Genuine Mahogany (case and doors) or African Mahogany for internal parts. There are a few maple pieces for sliding runners on the pull out panels and the ear ring bars. The various angled pegs were actually purchased as cribbage board pins and left unfinished. The door panels are ship lap panels and the cabinet back is tongue and grove panel construction. The door frames have an overlap on the center stiles so that the cabinet can be locked on one door only and likewise held closed with magnetic catches on that one door. There is a hidden French cleat hanger design so that the cabinet sides are flush to the wall and the case is secured with screws through the back into the wall cleat.
The Genuine was oil coated and then topped with several coats of Minwax Poly satin. The African was dyed a contrasting medium brown color before being finished with brushing lacquer.
Overall cabinet size is 28 inch high by 23 inch wide by 9 inch deep.

Love your design. So does my wife, I have another project to make! Do you have a plan I could convince you to give me?? Great work.
I love it too! …and I need one for myself. Another one goes on the list. Great craftsmanship.
