Cabinet inspired by Garrett Hack
I first came across Garrett Hack’s work when I joined finewoodworking.com a couple of years ago. His small hand plane tool cabinet was something I had always wanted to build. So when my beautiful wife Valerie came to me requesting a small cabinet made out of mahogany, I immediately thought of Garrett Hack’s tool cabinet. So here it is. Love the design and I can say there is a lot to be learned from building this project.
If I built this project again for my wife. I would extend the overall length and space the doors apart to fit my wife’s decorations. In addition I would consider replacing the solid wood pannel with a glass panel.
Materials:
Case/rail and stiles/molding – Mahogany
Panel – Birdseye maple
Back and shelves – Curly maple
Banding – Ebony and Holly
Door pull – Ebony
Hinge – Antique brass
Thanks Garrett!!! My wife loves it.

Excellent work. What was your finish? Was your door panel one solid piece?
Appreciate it. I just used Shellac and it is two peaces of Birdseye maple from the same board.
