Walnut and paduak dining table, bench and chairs
This was one of my early designs and builds and my first chair design from scratch. There were many plublic resources from the web that were used to influence the design style. All curved shaping was done by hand using traditional tools. I used finish recipe that includes, boiled linseed oil, wipe on poly and oil based stains. This was my first chair design that was influenced by the FWW workshop video of Matt Kenny’s Elegant dining chair. Before this project, chairs scared me – now we are old friends. I wrote a detailed tutorial for this project as part of the build process.

I love the table top. It is substantial and the contrasting dowels and edging strips surrounding the table makes it very interesting to look at. May I ask how you fastened the dowels to the table top ends to allow for seasonal expansions? Won't expansions pop the edging strips where breadboards meet main tabletop? I would love to do something like this but not sure how this stand up through the expansion / contraction process. How does the table top hold up after the years and how did you address the expansion contraction concern? Thanks.
