Extending Hayrake Table
Last year we had an extension built onto our house. This meant we had a brand new kitchen and dining room.
My wife wanted a new Dining Table to go with her new dining room. She fell in love with the Mike’s Hayrack Table design and I relished the challenges that the design would bring up.
About half way through the build, my client decided that she needed the table to be smaller but able to extend to the full size when we had dinner guests. This necessitated a bit of a design change and I learnt how to make and fit breadboard ends. I also had to fit them on the inside ends of the panels too (the cut released some tension in the previously flat boards) so I made a feature out of this by having the extended tabletop be three equal(ish) sections.
I learnt a lot about what not to do when building a table but I did learn a lot. I particulary enjoyed my first experiences with Shellac.
I’m pretty happy with the final result though. Next project: something small though 😉
