Chip-Carving Hayrake Table
Woodworker: Dave Heller
When Heller wanted to make a computer table a couple of years ago, he remembered a table he’d seen in this magazine in 1984 (FWW #48), built by the English Arts and Crafts furniture maker Sidney Barnsley. After seeing another Barnsley table, Heller added curves to the hayrakes on his version. The chip-carving decorating the legs and the tabletop took close to 15 minutes per foot, but Heller says it was worth the effort for the visual and textural treat it provides. The table is made of quartersawn white oak. It is 34 in. wide by 80 in. long by 27 in. tall and is finished with Waterlox.

I like the softening of this wonderful design with the chip carving and the curved ends of the top. I made two coffee tables inspired by the original, with hayrake - wishbone supports. I am happy with them but I like your variation, too.
