Judges’ Special Award

For 13 years, the Texas Furniture Makers Show has been promoting the talents of the state’s woodworkers with an annual exhibit in Kerrville. The show last November featured the work of 42 furniture makers. Here is one of the award winners.

Kamerath cut nearly 900 half-lap joints-one at a time-while building this afzelia and glass coffee table (26 in. wide by 48 in. long by 15-1⁄2 in. tall). After constructing the basic form of the table, Kamerath used a handheld grinder with a saw-wheel attachment, followed by a sanding disk, to attain the final shape. The 12 legs touching the floor also support the glass top. He finished the table with Danish oil.
