Spice Box
Woodworker: John Rexroad
Rexroad made this spice box as a wedding gift for his wife. But the box (10 in. deep by 15 in. wide by 19-3⁄4 in. tall), made of walnut with holly and cedar stringing and bird’s-eye maple drawer fronts, was also an opportunity to expand his woodworking skills. He had never done string inlay before, and a class with FWW contributing editor Steve Latta got him started. The finish includes grain-filler, stain, glaze, shellac, and wipe-on varnish.
