Wabi-Sabi Student Build
I recently read a blog post by a well known woodworker who mentioned that he was concerned about the lack of interest young people have in woodworking. I wanted to post this build that some of my high school students will be doing.
Skills and attitudes toward fine work are still being taught in woodworking education. I get to be one of the privileged who gets to inspire and teach old and new world skills to our young people, everything from CNC techniques to the making and use of wooden hand planes.
Hundreds of students pass through my shop every year and many of them pursue careers in Carpentry, Cabinetmaking and Construction technologies. Our young people are interested!
This little cabinet is built with story sticks, coopered doors, handmade knife hinges, dowel joinery, hand planed surfaces, splined partitions and dovetailed drawers. This is the demo; my students will be building from their own select hardwoods. I will post some photo’s of their work once we begin in September.

This is excellent work, from the design to the execution. This not only speaks well of the student; it speaks well of the teacher, too.
Thanks for all of your work on behalf of your students.
