Extension Table workbench
I have a small garage and a large table saw, as a result I need to make use of every square inch. I built a workbench into the extension table on my Sawstop ICS. The hole pattern is 3/4″ holes on 96mm centers (similar to Festool MFT) with two Veritas inset vises. I have access to a CNC router that drilled the holes and cut the slab to the finished dimensions 30″ x 40″. Nice to know that everything is perfectly square and in-line.
The top is 2″ of hard maple. The base is also maple with a single 3/4″ acme screw to raise/lower the caster (dual locking) for support. The legs are through tennons w/ drawbores for added durability. I can lower the feet for additional stability, but honestly the entire setup weighs close to 800 pounds so I don’t think I’ll have to do that very often. Just with the wheel engaged things don’t really move at all.
I searched for similar designs for some time, but never found anything that matched what I was after. I designed the entire setup in Sketchup before starting and constantly updated with any changes as I went along. The Sketchp file was also used for the CNC work.
Total cost for the project including the wood, vises, screw and caster was about $400.

Hey this is a great looking bench/extension. How do you like your VSCT fence?? would like to hear some pros and cons. I like the idea but don't know if I want to shell out the extra cash.
I like what you did with your table saw extension. Would like to know a little more about it.
