Bluecab, beautiful work. What was the most difficult portion of the build, and how did you overcome the issue? thanks
Hi Larry. Thank you for the comment. Honestly, I didn't find the chair that challenging per se. A good grasp of fundamental woodworking skills and techniques are certainly helpful in building a Maloof rocker. What I needed to build the chair was specs; angles and dimensions are critical to Sam's design and those I got from Charles Brock's excellent dvd tutorial series. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to build their own 'Maloof'.
All the best, Ken.
The first Maloof rocker I built was done with Hal Taylor's excellent instruction manual and patterns (www.haltaylor.com). My second rocker, as well as a Maloof settee and two Maloof low-back side chairs were done using Scott Morrison's terrific videos and patterns (www.finewoodworker.com). Charles Brock's videos and instructions are excellent as well. Between the three, there are some slight variations in design and construction details from the Maloof "prototypes", but any of these are well worth considering. Just make sure you have a respirator and a good dust collection system......!
