Vacationing in Hawaii, I was taken by similar style table shown in a Hilo consignment gallery that was equisitely done in cocobolo. Loving the style but having to choose between cocobolo and food, I opted to tap into my stock of purple heart for the base and accent the floating top with a birds eye maple insert outlined with strips of ebonized maple. I also added an art deco style mirror of the same materials in order to complete an entryway set. Both pieces are finished in UV resistant varnish to inhibit the natural tendency of purple heart to darken with exposure to direct sunlight..so far, so good.
