Footnote
A friend needed a footrest to match his colonial style chair and I was able to fashion one from some mahogany drop pieces and salvaged leather. The concave, laminated seat base was vacuum press formed with 1/8″ plywood and fitted into the supporting cradle. Pieces were doweled and glued and despite initial reservations, the multiple joints (necessited by using drop pieces for the legs) have held substantial weight…many times that of the cat that has apparently taken it as its primary residence.
During fabrication, the lateral load of the sanding drum on my drill press spindle finally convinced me to invest in a Rigid EB4424 oscillating spindle sander (FWW tool guide). It’s turned out to be a good piece of work well worth the modest price.
