Burl and Red Oak Table
Woodworker: Yoshy Pineles
The branching leg design of this table (18 in. wide by 42 in. long by 32 in. tall) grew from Pineles’s love of trees and vaulted ceilings. To make the table’s thin top stiff and strong, he built it from plywood as a torsion box. He then veneered it with redwood burl. The legs-and the steam-bent arches face-glued to them-are solid red oak. Each leg and arch is fixed to the top with steel dowels and epoxy.
Pineles completed this piece as a student at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Rockport, Maine.
