Dogwood Marquetry Cabinet
Woodworker: Craig Thibodeau
This marquetry cabinet (22 in. deep by 49 in. wide by 84 in. tall), is the largest marquetry piece Thibodeau has made. Made of wenge, ash burl, curly maple, and quartersawn maple, it includes roughly 200 dogwood flowers made of holly and satinwood veneer and 150 leaves made of dyed poplar veneer. The branches are mahogany. Thibodeau sand-shaded the individual petals and leaves to create the shadow effect. He finished the piece with satin conversion varnish.
