Knock-Down Writing Desk
Woodworker: Brett Gabriel Simon
The idea for Simon’s clever knockdown writing desk in ash (20 in. deep by 28-3⁄4 in. wide by 38-1⁄4 in. tall) came from 19th-century British campaign furniture-pieces used by military officers in the field. The base of Simon’s desk is removable and quickly disassembles. The drawers are sized to hold standard paper and envelopes, and the space beside them is made to fit either a laptop or, for campaigns way off the grid, a portable typewriter.
Simon completed this piece as a student at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Rockport, Maine.
