Router / Downdraft Sanding Table
I built this router/downdraft sanding table from my own design.
I needed a multi-purpose table that could be a router table, a sanding table, and a general work table all in one due to space limitations in my garage. I also needed a way to collect dust from sanding and routing to reduce the amount of dust on my cars.
The table top is 1″ MDF with a 1/16″ white countertop laminate on both sides and 1/2″ maple edgebanding. There is a piano hinge on the back which allows the top to be lifted and proped up with a side. Two 1/2″ MDF tables are then inserted into the space and used as the downdraft sanding table. There is a 1/2″ plywood box inside the cabinet which collects dust from sanding and routing and vents it out the back into my dust collector.
The router fence hangs on brackets on the back when the tabletop is up. It runs in two t-tracks and has integrated dust collection with a blast gate. Another run of t-track is on the top for sliding stop-blocks and there is miter slot extrusion in the face for feather boards.
Other design features include four swiveling/locking casters, integrated power on/off for router, Jess’Em Rout-R-Lift, miter extrusion in the tabletop for a miter gauge, replaceable inserts for the fence (zero clearance), and lots of storage space for sanders/sand paper/router bits/router accessories/etc.
Cost about $800 and around 100 or more hours to make.
