Serpentine front chest of drawers
This chest of drawers in walnut with a serpentine or recurved front is based on the measured drawing on page 402 of “The Encyclodedia of Furnituremaking” by Ernest Joyce. The piece is entirely veneered with sugar pine core for the case, 11 plies of 1/14″ sugar pine veneer for the laminated drawer fronts, and walnut core for the top so the side mouldings would show as endgrain. The joinery is very straightforward dovetailing of the drawers and cases. The recurve of the front is slightly full, more convex than concave. Finish is satin spirits based polyurethane. I admire Mr. Joyce’s understated design and adhered to it as closely as I could.

Nice work on the veneering.
Was it done with a vacuum press?
I must pick up the book you mentioned
